Wait, Could Toy Story 4 Feature A Major Time Jump?

Almost a decade ago, fans said goodbye to Andy and his beloved childhood toys in a beautiful full circle ending that had him passing on his toys to a young girl named Bonnie before going away to college. Or so we thought. Toy Story 4 will pick up with Woody, Buzz and the gang as they go on a summer road trip with Bonnie and her family. We thought the recently released full trailer for the upcoming film featured the presence of Andy as both a kid and adult to get us in the feels, but some fans speculate otherwise. Take a look:

This an interesting theory from Twitter user @CrisMovieCorner! Is it possible that there will be a time jump in Toy Story 4 that will focus the story back on to Andy as he then passes his toys down to his son? This could happen if Bonnie grows out of his toys and decides to pay him a visit to give them back and, now, as a man in his thirties (since he was celebrating his eighth birthday in the first film, set in ‘95), he might find some joy in seeing his little ones play with some familiar faces.

The theory would certainly make for a touching conclusion for the franchise that ties back into the main characters’ roots. However, this might mean Woody and Buzz would have to watch Andy grow old, along with his son and end up in the same place of helplessness they were in Toy Story 3 that led to them being passed on to Bonnie.

The reason for this speculation started because some have found it difficult to believe that the boy playing with Buzz and Jessie in the trailer is a flashback of young Andy, even though he is wearing the same hat and looks to be in the bedroom from the original trilogy. Just look at the difference in looks between the two animated “Andys”:

However, digital animation has seen some significant changes in the over 20 years the Toy Story films have been produced and Andy has already seen a few alterations in every installment so far. Is it so hard to believe the new trailer brought back young Andy, and made him look a little different yet again, after showing the kid throughout the years? Check it out:

Think of it this way, if Toy Story was live action would the same actor be able to play Andy in every one of the movies if the filmmakers wanted to keep him the same age? Oh, did you say “It’s animation, the whole point is to be able to keep it consistent”? In theory yes, but I would guess the animators like to have fun with these redesigns and as more advanced technology comes about they don’t mind changing things up every so often.

Just look at what was done with Violet’s crush Tony Rydinger between 2004’s Incredibles and the 2018 sequel that the internet couldn’t quit theorizing about last year:

I’d say that’s a lot more of a redesign than Andy gets in Toy Story 4 and we know that these animations were definitely meant to portray the same person. The scene of the Andy-looking kid in Toy Story 4 could still be his son, though! Guess we’ll find out for sure when the movie debuts in theaters on June 21, 2019.

Wait, Does Spider-Man’s Endgame Fate Connect To Captain Marvel?

Warning: MAJOR SPOILERS for Avengers: Endgame are ahead!

Even though Marvel remained quiet about whether or not the characters who were turned to dust at the end of Avengers: Infinity War would in Avengers: Endgame, it was generally assumed that some, if not all of these casualties would be brought back to the land of the living. At the very least, Spider-Man would definitely be back, as his next movie, Far From Home, is coming out this summer.

Sure enough, Spider-Man is among the many Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes back in play, and although within the franchise’s timeline it’s been five years since The Decimation, Peter is the same age as he was when he disappeared, so it’s back to high school he goes. And strangely enough, it’s now being speculated that Peter Parker’s school now has a character we met in Captain Marvel hanging around there: the Skrull known as Talos.

One of the final scenes in Avengers: Endgame showed Peter Parker reuniting with his best friend Ned at school, but before that happens, if you look closely in the background (via Imgur), you’ll see a teacher in the background high-fiving some of the students coming in. Although this man is far away, he bares a resemblance to the human guise that Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos took during Captain Marvel, which includes him rocking a grey suit.

In case you didn’t see Captain Marvel earlier this year or need a refresher, like most other Skrulls, Talos is a shapeshifter, so it was easy enough for him to blend in when he landed on Earth in 1995. He primarily disguised himself as Keller, Nick Fury’s boss at S.H.I.E.L.D. Avengers: Endgame takes place nearly three decades after Carol Danvers’ origin story, so it would be unusual for Talos to being using the same guise after all this time, although if the real Keller has since passed away, it’s not like that would cause any major problems.

Avengers: Endgame included a lot of MCU cameos, but Ben Mendelsohn was not among the credited actors, so it’d be strange if he showed up and wasn’t mentioned alongside everyone else. What would be the point in keeping that a secret given all the other bombshells this movie dropped?

Plus, the last time we saw Talos, he, his family and the rest of the Skrull refugees left to find a new homeworld with Captain Marvel. His work on Earth was already accomplished, so what reason would he have to return decades later, and as a high school teacher no less?

I’m guessing that this teacher at Peter Parker’s school just looks similar to Ben Mendelsohn, and is not in fact a disguised Skrull who’s keen on teaching gifted adolescents about science, math, literature, etc. That’s not to say that Mendelsohn couldn’t return to the MCU someday, but it’s likelier he’d show up in Captain Marvel 2.

As for Peter Parker, his next movie, Spider-Man: Far From Home, will serve as the final installment of Phase 3 and see he and his classmates going on a trip to Europe, where Peter will be recruited by Nick Fury to team up with Mysterio to fight the Elementals. Presumably Far From Home will explore how Peter is coping with the post-Endgame status quo, namely with how five years have passed since he disappeared and his mentor, Tony Stark, dying.

Spoilers ahead for Carol Danvers' origin story.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been going strong for well over a decade, and Phase Three brought a new success to the massive franchise. Every single blockbuster in the current slate of films has been a financial and critical success, as Disney continues to bask in the winning nature of the MCU. This includes the newest release, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck's Captain Marvel, which is earning a ton of money at the box office and breaking new ground for the shared universe.

Captain Marvel introduced Brie Larson's Carol Danvers to audiences, after fans waited years for the origin story to finally arrive in theaters. The film also brought the cosmic side of the MCU back to the silver screen, as Captain Marvel and her new buddy Nick Fury got involved the Kree/Skrull War. She ultimately navigated her memories and awesome powers, and even shared a brief scene with the surviving heroes in the mid-credits scene.

Its the mid-credits scene fans have been waiting for for nearly a year, after Nick Fury heralded Captain Marvel right before fading to dust during the final moments of Avengers: Infinity War. Carol Danvers was finally brought to the present MCU timeline, and is shown rocking longer hair than in Captain Marvel. She arrives at the Avengers facility seeking Nick Fury, but a new theory indicates her meet-cute with the surviving heroes might be darker than we thought.

The Captain Marvel mid-credits scene shows Carol Danvers coming face to face with Black Widow, and immediately asking where Fury was. But a new theory indicates it might not be Carol at all, but yet another shape shifting Skrull. This would indicate a major twist ahead for Endgame, as well as a stronger tie-in to the events of Captain Marvel. And perhaps the real Captain is still somewhere in the cosmos, and therefore able to rescue Tony Stark and Nebula from their precarious position stranded in space.

Of course, there is one major factor that may stop this fan theory, (which comes to us from THR) from gaining more steam: the characterization of the Skrulls in Captain Marvel. While they were set up to be villainous shape shifters, it turns out that the Skrulls were actually a refugee alien race who were simply trying to live our their time in peace, away from the Kree War. As such, it might be unlikely that they end up being imposter villains in Avengers: Endgame.

Then again, Endgame is set decades after the events of Captain Marvel. While Ben Mendelsohn's Talos and his compatriots were friendly Skrulls, things may have changed in the years that Carol Danvers has been in the cosmos. What's more, the Skrulls are an entire alien race, so there could still be some bad guys out there. And the idea of Captain Marvel starting off Endgame as an imposter would certainly be a fascinating plot twist.

The war between the Skrulls and Kree framed the narrative of Captain Marvel, while the title character attempted to navigate her memories and mysterious past on Earth. The trailers and first act of the movie make the shapeshifting aliens the enemy, as Carol Danvers is seen scrapping with a seemingly innocent old lady, that turned out to be a Skrull in disguise.

But Talos and the rest of the green aliens got a much more sympathetic edit in the final product, as it was revealed that they're refugees trying to escape Carol Danver's alien allies, The Kree. In the end, Captain Marvel herself was a victim of the Kree, who manipulated her into joining the Star Force, and used a disrupter to tone her abilities down. Carol Danvers ultimately sided with The Skrull, while laying the beat down to Ronan's forces and Jude Law's Yon-Rogg in the process.

It should be fascinating to see how Captain Marvel and her supporting characters continue to factor into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Carol Danvers' origin story has already made a ton of money during its first week at the box office, all but guaranteeing a sequel in the process. Phase Three also introduced Black Panther and Spider-Man, who have quickly become major presences in the overall franchise. Smart money says Captain Marvel follows suit, especially given how many OG Avengers' contracts will be up with Endgame.

Brie Larson was announced as Captain Marvel years ago, so her Marvel debut has been a long time coming. The character is teased to have a major presence in Avengers: Endgame, especially after so many heroes turned to dust as a result of Thanos' finger snap of death (aka The Decimation). The surviving heroes are going to need all the help they can get if they hope to vanquish the Mad Titan, and reverse the affects of the snap. Luckily, Captain Marvel has been teased as the most powerful hero in the MCU, so they've got the big guns. As long as Carol Danvers doesn't end up being a Skrull in disguise, that is.

With just one movie left before Phase Three concludes, it seems like just about anything is possible in the future of the MCU. Marvel Studios hasn't revealed its plans after Spider-Man: Far From Home, guarding the next slate of films until Endgame hits theaters. But Kevin Feige has teased that the cosmic side of the shared universe will be a focus in Phase Four, with Captain Marvel helping to expand the fictional galaxy. Smart money says we haven't seen the last of the Skrull or Kree races, although whether or not they factor into Endgame remains to be seen.

Luckily, the wait is almost over for Avengers: Endgame. Anticipation has been at a fever pitch, and things should only get crazier for the rabid fanbase in the month leading up to its release. Thanos' snap seriously upped the stakes, and fans are eager to see how it all turns out.
